The Interior Design student in me could not resist this post.
I have fallen in love with the colours of the year announced last month by Pantone: Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue, who have picked the prettiest of all colours for 2016. Pantone have not disappointed in the past either. I loved equally the deep rich Marsala, the super sophisticated Radiant Orchid, or the lush and exotic Emerald of these last three years. This year they have not selected one, but two colours, so let us use the opportunity and allow our kids and ourselves the openness to use both the Rose Quartz and its inevitable variations, and the Serenity Blue for both genders - even I managed to get my super-manly husband into a pink shirt for a recent wedding and now he actually admits he really likes it!
It is also an opportunity to get creative by buying something like a super hip pink fridge or bathtub! But if you prefer not to go into the expense of getting a large piece 'just for the sake of following the trend', you can always just accessorise with accent items like cushions, a plant pot, or an accent wall. Let us not restrict ourselves to just using these colours in the nursery.
So here are a few visuals on where these colours could be used, both in fashion and in interiors, and what other colours work well with them.
Layering rose over rose, or blue over blue - for the sophisticated
Together - for the super romantic
With a contrasting colour - for a bold statement
In the children's room - for the more traditional
In the kitchen - for the serious cooks
Rose with copper - for the trend setters
On walls - for the art lovers
On accent accessories - for the uber pratical
Now, I am off to try and convince my husband that I really need the rose SMEG, despite that fridge that has only been in our kitchen for 5 months and that he loves so much!
